2010! We live in a globalised and modern world where we discuss issues that years ago were "prohibited" to talk about, as sex, abortion, gay marriage, prostitution. However, there is one that the government and the families don't like to hear much... legalization of marijuana. Yes! Marijuana is a drug and as a drug it's not well seen by the society.
Eventhough this fact, it's an important topic to be discussed very seriously because it affects our life, even indirectely. How? Marijuana, and other drugs, are responsable for the "traffic of drugs", a black market that exists because the consumers of drugs exis. and it's is responsable for robberies, murders, corruption, homeless... and even from the jail, drug dealers continue to control "their market".
Even if you do not like and do not use marijuana, it is very close to you, at school, club, park on the streets...so, if the market of illegal drugs exists and will always exist, should it be better to legalize the marijuana?
Everything has your pros and cons.
1- Pros:
-if used in a controlled manner, the marijuana can has medical purposes.
-government can charge taxes by the sale, and can use them to good projects.
-kids/teens will not have directly acess to sale.
-drug dealers would lose their power
2-Cons:
-marijuana is the gateway to other worse drugs like heroin, cocaine.
-more kids and teens would have a easy acess to marijuana
-there would be more addicts
-would have more car accidents
Legalizing the market means that the government will control the sale of marijuana and will can charge taxes for this. The government will can know who sells, where is being sale and who is bying. Really? In a corruption country like Brazil we don't think that it will work, however it worked in Netherlands
